Neale Whyatt
With 25-years' experience and a career spanning software development, IT management, management consulting and web programming, I am able to bring technical skills and development process knowledge to bear on both web and non-web software projects.
I specialise in supporting interactive and web agencies, providing programming and technical support to a wide range of web-based projects. Working mainly from my fully equipped Cambridge office, I am able to provide resource on a 'per project' basis, on a retainer or contracted relationship and am used to working closely with agency teams to provide proactive programming and technical input to help realise creative ideas.
My particular specialisms in web application develoment are ASP, SQL Server, IIS, Linux, Apache, Perl CGI, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX and Drupal. For full life cycle non-web projects I focus on the architecture, design and coding of object-oriented applications developed using C++, C#, OOA/D, Sybase, Unix and Solaris, with clients as diverse as biotechnology companies and investment banks.

Whilst I have experience of many programming languages and tools, my core skills divide mainly between large-scale, full life cycle server-based systems using object technologies, and web application development involving web design, back-end relational databases, server-side programming and client web coding.
As an early adopter of object-oriented analysis, design and programming, I first chose C++ to deliver a scientific application in 1989. I subsequently moved into object technology-related management consulting roles at KPMG and IBM. Since going freelance in 1997, I have continued to undertake C++ assignments, but increasingly work on web-based, database-centric application projects.
Much of my freelance work has been performed for clients and design agencies that, understandably, prefer to keep their end clients confidential. However, organisations I have worked with in permanent or freelance roles include:
